Chapter Fifteen
a fresh start...
Hi Friends,
Happy New Year! How are things? January, for me, was a free-trial month. The real year starts in February. January was lengthy, I mean 56 days long. I’m glad it’s over.
I hope life will be better this year and the goals mapped out will be achieved beyond your imagination. It’s never too late to draw up those plans or make the vision board. I’m still doing mine too. Towards the end of the year, it felt as if I didn’t achieve much but, on looking at my vision board, I discovered that I achieved 80% of the goals mapped out. This year, I am doing the same.
Here are some links in case you need help preparing your vision board; vision board planning, how to plan a vision board, vision board on Canva and physical vision board.
Have fun while doing this activity!
Onto the books…
In January, I read 6 books. My favourites out of the lot are The Bandit Queens by Parini Shroff and the first book of the Lust Diaries: In her Closet by Tasha L. Harrison.
For this month, I will read a lot of romance and smut. I haven’t decided on which other ones yet apart from the Lust Diaries Serie but, I will share with you the paperbacks I want to read this month, hopefully.
The first three are new books while ABroken People’s Playlist by Chimeka Garticks is a re-read. The last time I read this was in 2021, I reckon it’s time my heart gets broken again while listening to a carefully curated playlist.
With 10 minutes 38 seconds in This Strange World by Elif Shafak, begins my journey to reading all of her work this year. Surprisingly, she has another book coming out this year too. Looking through my books to make this selection made me realise that I don’t have paperbacks/ hardbacks of romance novels. This needs to be rectified ASAP. Luckily, I have found a Nigerian romance author whose work I want to explore this year; which I will reveal later on.
Speaking of romance, a tweet led to the suggestion of Nigerian love songs by people. The suggestions made me realize the dearth of lyrics in today’s songs by artists. I like the wave of amapiano, the wonderful beats and all that pizzazz but, lyrics in songs mean a lot to me. It’s why I cannot let the 2010 and downward era go. I find myself listening to them always. This compilation was nostalgic, especially with accompanying videos. There really was a time! Here’s the Spotify link and the Apple link.
This is it, guys. It’s currently dry season; moisturize and use your sunscreen. Drink a lot of water, be safe and do things that make you happy.
Don’t forget to live boldly. You only get one life. It’s actually your duty to live it as fully as possible.
The quote is from Me Before You. A book and movie I adore. Perhaps in my next newsletter, I will share my favourite love songs and movies.
Until then, take care!
xoxo
Ebele
